A message from...
Intern Bethany Klingenberg
February 2010

I have recently taken on the task of memorizing James 1. The whole chapter. Its a large task but I am excited to do it! I have found that I do better when I take a small portion, read it over and over again, then try to say it back to myself. After I get that portion down, I move to the next section and repeat the process, adding the sections to each other as I go. The more I read it and think on it, the easier it comes to my memory when I try to recite it. I am reminded of Psalms 119:11 when David says, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you". Hidden means to conceal. If you have something of great worth to you, do you leave it out on your living room table? No, you hide it somewhere safe, somewhere you can remember where you hid it so that you can go back to it. It should be the same with God's word. His word is a treasure and a source of life to our hearts. When we memorize the word of God and allow it to sink into our very being, it provides us with a covering that #1- keeps us from sin (God does not sin so if He is inside of us and His word lives in us, we can overcome and live as He does) and #2- provides us with a source of life that we can easily recall to battle thoughts of doubt and fear.  Colossians 3:16 says, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God."
